The Tale of Despereaux This Weekend

Posted by Faith in movies.

The Tale of Despereaux opens this weekend and it looks like a very cute movie. It’s based on the book by Kate Dicamillo. You can read more information about the film in this news post on Fantasy Is Love, and the trailer on Fantasy Fanspace.

I’ve always really liked animated films, and stories with tough underdog type characters. My sisters and I are celbrating Christmas this weekend, so I hope I’ll find time in the busy weekend to go see the movie.

Emma Watson did an interview on Just Jared Jr about the Tale of Despereaux recently where she talked about the movie, and Harry Potter, and what it’s like to do an animated film. You can watch the interview below.

I like that she mentions “Yes Man” at the end. I posted those Harry Potter stills in an entry a while back, that movie opens this weekend in the US, too. I recently saw a commercial on television that went a little more into that Harry Potter scene-apparently they’re at a Harry Potter themed party.

“Dead and Gone” Cover

Posted by Faith in fantasy books.

Charlaine Harris (author of the Sookie Stackhouse series which the new and fabulous HBO series True Blood is based on) has a new book coming out in the US May 5th, 2009 called “Dead and Gone”, the 9th Sookie Stackhouse novel. The cover for the new novel is below.

You can read an excerpt from Chapter one of the book on her website. If you haven’t visited her site before, she keeps a blog there where she updates with books she recommends, and other things going on in her world.

“Fangs, Fur, and Fey” and “Lament”

Posted by Faith in fantasy books.

Fangs, Fur, and Fey is a livejournal community filled with posts from authors of urban fantasy (hence the name). I love reading the posts and seeing what the authors have to say, it’s a great way of finding new authors to follow.

There’s a post from today that I particularly liked from author Maggie Stiefvater (m-stiefvater on livejournal) She wrote Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception which came out in October of this year.

The post she made was about having to change the name of one of her characters after writing the whole novel, and having the sequel to go. Read the whole way through-the end gave me a giggle :)

I haven’t read her novel Lament, yet. It’s on my hold list at the library and I should be getting it any time. Lament is a YA fantasy novel about a high school student, and the soulless fairy assassin she falls for (obviously unaware that the fairy’s intentions are to kill her). The sequel, Ballad, will be out in Fall 2009.

And, apparently from the livejournal post, she is busy working on a werewolf story!

I love how the Internet makes it so easy for me to see what authors are up to. While I don’t turn away from authors with a presence online, I’m definitely more pulled in by those who do. I like being able to see on their websites that they have livejournals and facebooks and blogs where I can easily get an idea of whether there will be sequels to my new favorite book of the moment.

Do you follow your favorite authors online? In general, do you find out about books online, or do you just wander the store and pick up the ones with the best covers? (I know there’s that saying about not judging books by their covers, but I know I often do. Sue me.)

Yes Man Harry Potter Stills

Posted by Faith in movies.

The upcoming film Yes Man starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel has been releasing movie stills with the characters dressed up as Harry and Hermione from Harry Potter. The first one came out last month, and a second one was just released with Rhys Darby as Ron.

The movie is about a man who usually says no to all of life’s opporotunity’s and challenges himself to say yes to everything that comes his way for a year. With that in mind, what do you think he could have agreed to that has him dressed up with a lightening bolt on his forehead?

Supernatural Tonight: Heaven and Hell!

Posted by Faith in television.

Supernatural is overloading my brain right now. I’m so happy it’s Thursday! Honestly, Thursday is the worst day of the week at my job-and I never ever care because throughout all of it I’m thinking TONIGHT I HAVE A DATE WITH SAM AND DEAN! YAY!

Supernatural left off in last week’s “I Know What you Did Last Summer” in a crazy cliffhanger spot, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’m not going to get into all of that here (though I am talking about it in this thread on Fantasy Fanspace) but I did want to share some of my Supernatural thoughts lately.

The Supernatural convention was this past weekend, and while I didn’t get to go, I read some great articles on the experience. One in particular stood out though, “My Fan Girl Moment“. This post might seem long, but I found it to be worth reading. It’s written by a girl who wouldn’t really call herself a fan girl, she’s never been to a convention before and doesn’t understand why the people around her are spending ridiculous amounts of money to meet these actors, have their photos taken with them, purchase show merchandise, etc. And in this post, you’ll get to read through her first real Supernatural fan girl moments at the convention, and seriously they are some amazing moments-very cool! Some highlights:

“With the past cons I’ve always watched their videos and loved the answers but here, I felt the sheer electricity in the room. I felt everyone’s overwhelming love for them, and their love for us. It was an experience that I cannot equate with anything I’ve ever seen. It was definitely one of those “you had to be there” moments, and I’m glad I was”….

…”The only thing running through my mind as I wandered through the ballroom in a daze was, “How am I ever going to top that moment?”

Tonight’s episode of Supernatural, Heaven and Hell, will be the last one before the holiday break. Thursday’s just won’t be the same for a while, seriously. But-before I start on my Supernatural withdrawal pains-there are three clips from tonight’s episode roaming around the internet. I try to stay spoiler free so I’m not watching them, but if you’d like, you can check them out over on Fangirl Says.

If you’d like to rewatch the 20 second promo video that aired at the end of last week’s episode for Heaven and Hell you can check that out below…

And now you can start speculating on what it all means!

If you’d like to talk about Supernatural check out the Supernatural Group on Fantasy Fanspace where I hae started a thread for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (and Heaven and Hell speculation) and another thread for after you’ve seen Heaven and Hell and want to gush all about it!
